Niagara Falls
By Bryan Garaventa
"Niagara Falls" captures the surreal transformation of the falls during the winter polar vortex of 2014, when ice, mist, and violent water converged into an almost otherworldly landscape. The composition contrasts motion and stillness: immense frozen structures suspended above endless water continuing beneath the surface. Inspired by firsthand experience of the falls during extreme winter conditions, the work explores the overwhelming scale and power of nature while preserving the strange silence and isolation created by snow, ice, and darkness.
